Los Angeles Founding Pilot

Help shape a more thoughtful way to build friendship.

Limen is preparing for a limited pilot with Los Angeles adults who are genuinely interested in building new friendships. We are looking for a small group of founding testers to use the app naturally and tell us what works, what feels unclear, and where the experience needs to improve.

Applying does not guarantee selection. Participation is free.

About Limen

Friendship takes more than finding people nearby.

Many friendship apps focus on discovery. They help people see more profiles, join more groups, or collect more possible connections.

But finding people is only the beginning.

The harder part is knowing how to move from a profile to a real conversation, from a conversation to time spent together, and from one promising interaction to something that begins to feel like friendship.

Limen is designed around those moments.

Why Limen exists

Adult friendship often develops differently from childhood friendship.

When we are younger, friendship is supported by repeated contact. We see the same people at school, in our neighborhoods, through family, or during activities. Familiarity grows naturally because we keep crossing paths.

Adult life is less structured that way.

People move. Work becomes remote. Relationships and family responsibilities change. Schedules become harder to coordinate. Even when someone genuinely wants new friends, there may be fewer natural opportunities to see the same people often enough for trust and familiarity to develop.

Limen cannot create friendship for someone. But it can make the path toward friendship clearer and more intentional.

More than shared interests

Shared interests can help two people begin a conversation, but they do not automatically create a friendship.

Friendship also depends on:

  • Curiosity about another person
  • Mutual effort
  • Honest communication
  • Reliability
  • Repeated interaction
  • Remembering what matters to someone
  • Following up
  • Making room for ordinary time together
  • Responding with care when something feels uncertain

Limen is built to support these behaviors, not simply help people find someone who likes the same activities.

Profiles are designed to show more than hobbies. They can also help people understand how someone prefers to communicate, how often they might like to spend time together, what kinds of social situations feel natural to them, and what they are genuinely looking for in a friendship.

A different approach to friendship apps

Limen does not use swiping, likes, follower counts, popularity signals, or passive matches.

A connection begins only when someone chooses to send a message.

There is no pressure to collect as many connections as possible. Limen is designed to encourage a smaller number of thoughtful interactions, giving people the space to decide whether genuine curiosity develops.

The goal is not to make every person feel compatible.

The goal is to help people notice when there may be enough interest, shared possibility, and mutual willingness to take one honest next step.

Human choice remains at the center

Limen uses technology to support communication and reflection, but it does not make personal decisions for the user.

The app may help someone:

  • Understand why a profile might be worth exploring
  • Organize what they genuinely want to say
  • Follow up after a conversation or meetup
  • Remember something important another person shared
  • Communicate honestly when plans change
  • Recognize when a connection feels one-sided
  • End a connection respectfully instead of disappearing

The user still decides what to say, whether to send it, whether to continue, and whether to meet.

Limen’s guiding principle is simple:

The app can help people express what they already feel. It should never invent feelings, decisions, or intentions for them.

Friendship without performance

Many social platforms encourage people to present themselves for attention.

Limen is designed for a different purpose.

There are no public follower counts, popularity rankings, or social feeds. Profiles are not designed to become personal advertisements. The emphasis is on helping people understand one another well enough to decide whether they would like to start a real conversation.

The aim is not to appear impressive.

The aim is to arrive as yourself and meet another person as they are.

“Limen is designed to help people show up for friendship, not perform for an audience.”

Curiosity before judgment

It is easy to evaluate a new person quickly.

Did the conversation feel effortless?

Did they say the right thing?

Do we have enough in common?

Was the first meetup exciting enough?

Limen encourages a different starting point: curiosity.

A profile is only a glimpse of a person. One conversation is not a complete relationship. A first meetup does not need to be perfect.

The question is not whether someone immediately proves that they are the ideal friend.

The question is whether there is enough mutual interest to remain curious, spend time together again, and learn more.

This does not mean ignoring incompatibility, discomfort, or boundaries. It means allowing friendship enough space to develop before expecting certainty.

Ordinary time matters

Friendship is not built only through memorable outings or deep conversations.

It can also grow through:

  • A walk
  • Coffee after work
  • Running an errand together
  • Sitting in the same room while working on separate things
  • Checking in after an important event
  • Remembering a small detail
  • Making another plan before too much time passes

Limen treats these ordinary moments as meaningful.

The app is designed to help people move beyond endless messaging and toward the repeated, shared experiences through which familiarity and trust can grow.

Honest communication instead of silence

New friendships often disappear without explanation.

Someone becomes busy, uncertain, overwhelmed, or no longer interested. Instead of saying what changed, they stop replying.

Limen does not assume that every connection should continue. It does encourage people to communicate honestly when it does not.

A short, respectful response can prevent another person from wondering whether they said something wrong. An honest cancellation can preserve trust. A kind ending can give both people clarity.

The goal is not to force a connection.

The goal is to treat the other person with care, even when the answer is no.

The app should eventually become unnecessary

Limen is not designed to keep people using the app forever.

It succeeds when two people build enough trust, familiarity, shared experience, and their own rhythm of communication that they no longer need an app to remind them to show up for one another.

The product supports the beginning.

The friendship belongs to the people building it.

Limen is a place to begin with curiosity, move with intention, and give real friendship the time and care it needs to grow.

Who we are inviting

  • Los Angeles adults ages 30 and older
  • People genuinely interested in building new friendships
  • People willing to try an unfinished app
  • People willing to share honest feedback
  • People using either iPhone or Android
  • People of all genders and sexual orientations

You do not need to be outgoing, highly social, or experienced with friendship apps.

What participation may include

Selected participants may be invited to take part in the following, over the course of the pilot.

Participants are testing a real social experience, not completing a checklist. Some weeks will feel more active than others, and that is expected.

  • Download the Limen app
  • Complete onboarding
  • Review profiles and suggestions
  • Use Browse, Discover, Save, and messaging naturally
  • Share feedback at several points during the pilot
  • Report confusing experiences or technical problems
  • Participate for several weeks
Good to know

You remain in control of every connection.

Participants are never required to message, continue talking with, or meet anyone they are not genuinely interested in.

  • Not finding a suitable connection is valid feedback.
  • Starting a conversation does not create an obligation to continue.
  • Meeting in person is never a testing requirement.
  • Any meetup happens only when both people independently want to meet.
  • Limen does not guarantee a match, friendship, response, or meetup.

A small pilot, introduced in stages
